Kayla has basically become allergic to the word date. Her Mom insists upon setting her up on them and Kayla has had one bad date after another because of it. But for some reason she agreed to one her best friend, Sue, wants her to go on with Ryan, a friend of Sue's boyfriend. The catch, and Kayla knows this, is that her Mom begged Sue to set Kayla up with someone. Mom is determined to find Kayla a man. LOL
Kayla and Ryan are meeting at a halfway point since Ryan will be in Florida for some physical therapy and Kayla can then continue on to her parents' private island off the Florida Coast. Yes, her parents own a private island. There's a little peek into Kayla's life for you. However, Kayla doesn't live like the rich and famous. When we meet her, she's at a camp surrounded by twelve year old girls. Kayla is down to earth.
Ryan was injured while serving in the military and hasn't fully come to grips with losing a leg and having a prosthetic. Understandable, right? He's also having some issues *ahem* getting excited. Ryan has retreated from socializing, yet his brothers have can ganged up on him and let him know he needs to start moving forward. He finally accepts the blind date arranged with his brother Calvin's help.
Kayla opens the door and is in awe of his likeness to Thor. Rawr. (Admit it, we all find Chris Hemsworth hot.) Ryan sees Kayla and hallelujah, things are working again. *wink wink nudge nudge*
It turns out Kayla is exactly who he needs. She flat out calls him on using his injuries as an excuse and that he needs to accept his new reality and start moving on. Yes, it seems a little harsh, but he knows she's right. Oh, did I forget to mention Kayla is a child psychologist, specializing in children with deformities or terminal illnesses? Got you, Ryan. She can see right through you. Kayla looks at him and sees a sexy man that she's very attracted to. The prosthetic is a part of him, but it doesn't change him at all in her eyes.
As the evening draws to a close, Kayla is feeling the connection and loathes the idea of it ending, of never seeing Ryan again. But Ryan makes a couple statements that gives her the impression she's essentially a "stepping stone" for him to get back into the dating world, that he now knows he can handle dating again. Ouch. That would hurt.
Out of self-preservation, Kayla leaves as soon as Ryan falls asleep. You can't blame the girl for wanting to protect herself from disappointment. The thing is, Ryan did feel the same connection and wants to continue seeing her. Now Ryan just needs to find her.

Jessica's friend, Kayla, (remember her) is happily head over heels in love with Ryan and now wants everyone to be the same way. So she talks Jessie into a vacation on the island so she can relax and get away from the craziness that work has been lately and a little celebration now that her divorce from Dan "he's not the man" is final. Psst...Dan is a selfish jerk.
Matt, a friend of Ryan's, is visiting the couple on his own little vacation. Silly Matt really thinks Kayla will let go of her idea to set him up with her friend. But Matt is insecure and struggling with some issues due to his injuries. He wants the closeness Ryan and Kayla have found, but doesn't think he'll find a woman that can handle his situation.
Oh would you look at that...Matt and Jessie are here at the same time. "No, I didn't plan this at all," says Kayla. Teehee. "Nah, I'm lying. I totally set you two up." Kayla laughs evilly. Haha. Yeah, okay, Kayla didn't say either of those things, but I'm mentally imagining it. LOL The thing is, Matt and Jessie aren't really upset with her about it. They're both liking what they see. But when conversation turns to what they both do, Matt is expecting the usual response to his injuries. He doesn't get it. Jessie surprises him and he's not sure how to handle that. To Jessie, everyone has scars, some are just more visible than others. *Preach it, sister.*
After a very steamy encounter on the beach, they decide to continue their date in the bedroom. *bow chicka wow wow* But Matt still can't handle the thought of her seeing his scars and it's just too painful for Jessie and she leaves. Not just his room, like Matt thought. No, she leaves the island.
Will Ryan's talk with Matt make him see that Jessie isn't like everyone else? She won't freak out about his scars or pity him because of them. She works with Kayla, so they both see children who are suffering the same type of injuries or worse. Will Jessie give Matt a second chance? Will Matt be strong enough to show Jessie his scars? Nope, I'm not telling. Find out for yourself.

Loved these short stories! The only thing I disliked about this book is that it was too short! I hope you consider writing a continuation to the stories! Please, please, please!!
I really liked this book
I should have been longer more involved not just with sex but the whole thing like the therapy etc.
This is a really good read. A soldier home with battle scars and burns is set up with a woman with emotional scars from an abusive husband. What a story -- what a romance and here is the spoiler -- yes they have a happy ending!
