Redburn His First Voyage is a novel by Herman Melville published on September 29, 1849, by Richard Bentley in London and on November 14, 1849, by Harper & Brothers in New York City. It is semi-autobiographical and recounts the sufferings of a refined youth among coarse and brutal sailors and the seedier areas of Liverpool. With Redburn, Melville returned to a more commercial format after the failure of his allegorical novel Mardi, which was published earlier in the year. It was written quickly (in less than 10 weeks) and under financial duress. The book does make some social criticisms, including attacks on the evils of drinking alcohol. It contains one of the more notable examples of spontaneous combustion in literature

Redburn, His First Voyage by Herman Melville. Published by MobileReference (mobi). This is a story of lost innocence, breaking away from the comforts of home and country to experience life on one's own. Melville captures poetically, Redburn's journey, observations, feelings, and dark reality of life in pre-civil war America and England. If you have never read Melville before, this is a page turning introduction to a very much admired author. His style of writing is poetic, and clever and his narrative captures the feelings and thoughts of the time. I highly recommend it.

Redburn His First Voyage Herman Melville 9781490920108 Books Reviews
I just tried to read this book. All there was to read was the table of contents. I would truly enjoy more than that .
I've downloaded twice to be sure it wasn't an error. But both times this file contained only a table of contents, none of the book text was included. Someone should fix this.
It is unclear to us why the customer could not see the text beyond the table of contents. product pages sometimes mix reviews for several books with identical title. Maybe this review belongs to a book published by another publisher. In any case we assure you that MobileReference book does not have any errors. The MobileReference book was carefully checked for accuracy and completeness by a team of experts and tested on both 1 and 2. Please download the Free demo.

It took me a long time to appreciate Moby Dick. I had to read it more than once. I haven't finished this Melville and may not. I don't think it's a great place to start with Melville. And it may require some real concentration and desire to read.
